Ek Balam is one of the new jewels of Mayan archaeology and our personal favorite! There are incredibly well- preserved stucco sculptures over 1200 years old which you witness up close by climbing the Acropolis, a nearly 100 ft. tall temple. The views are outstanding. Come and see for yourself this Mayan ruin.
Along the return, we make a stop at the Destilería Artesanal de Agave Mayapán, a small but wonderful local distillery that is making tiny batch of Agave where we will taste the local version of what is known as tequila. Since we are not in the Tequila region of Mexico, here it is known as Agave.
In Valladolid, you will find one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in the Yucatan Peninsula. This is where we usually have lunch and enjoy the sights on our way through to one of the archaeological sites. We will stop here to shop as well. You can purchase excellent honey products, such as a honey liqueur called Xtabentun.

Duration at Ruins: 1 hr and 15 min to 1 hr and 30 min, or depending on you. Ek Balam tour with a presentation by a certified ruins guide.
Blue Agave Tasting : 30 min approximately. You will have an explanation of how blue agave is grown and made, you will see the location and be given a walk thru. If you are lucky you may see part of the process in action. You will taste 4 presentations of agave during the stop.
Lunch will be in downtown Valladolid at a beautiful hacienda style restaurant. Your group will be give free time if wanted to do a little shopping along the way.
